Ideas and Insights: Sharing ideas, suggestions, and tips on life as a birthmom.

Dealing with Stress
by Amy Schumaker

Are you stressed?? Husband, kids, or other family members driving you crazy? Feeling on edge about birthmother/adoption issues? Wanting to skip school or ready to quit your job??

Unless you are superwoman, then you have felt or thought these things!! This past month I had a minor crisis and just shut down. I needed to get away and regroup and become normal again so I hopped on a plane and flew three thousand miles to my parents house. But most people aren’t able to hop on a plane and do that and it’s honestly not something I can do often, so I brainstormed some ways that I and those of you dealing with stress lately can reduce stress, re-group, and hopefully find a little relief from the stress and anxiety you may be feeling.

·  Take a long bath with dim lighting and candles.

·  Take a walk outside to get out of the stressful area for a little bit.

·  Call a trusted friend or family member to vent to.

·  Put on some music.

·  Pull out a book and read a chapter or two.

·  Talk to a counselor or social worker if the situation needs that.

I hope these ideas give you some inspiration to take care of yourself so that you don't have a freak out session like I did!!

Troy Dunn, The Locator
written by Alicia Moser

“My mother asked me to find her biological Mother for her. It was then that I realized you can’t have peace until you find all the pieces.”
~ Troy Dunn, The Locator

Since 1990, Troy Dunn has been on a mission. It started with him wanting to help his mom fill a hole in her life. She personally felt something was missing and wanted to find her biological family. That event gave him and his then partner the desire to help create an organization that had one goal: help people reunite with their long lost friends and family members.

His television show The Locator has been doing just that since 1994. It is estimated that over 300 million people have witnessed these reunions on national television. With getting media attention from well known celebrities such as John Walsh from America's Most Wanted and Barbara Walters, he has become very well known and it has now become a challenge to surprise someone with a dream reunion-because they know right away why he has come to see them!

Troy also has a website called Troy-the-Locator whose goal is to assist more people in their search for a long-lost friend or family member. It is Troy's brain child and was made with one of the most in-depth and accurate data files available. What sets his site apart from other locator sites is that he does not use outdated white information for its data, but instead, combines thousands of somewhat obscure record files into one large data pool and then he makes it available to the public for more accurate locate results.

Also, since all the work he does for his show has kept him from becoming licensed as a private investigator, he chose a select group of his favorite private investigators from all over the United States to do the Professional locates for people that visit his search website. He has either trained these people himself or they have previously helped Troy locate people.

On a personal note, what Troy is doing hits close to home because he started locating people in the year which my birth daughter Brittany was born. I have often been skeptical of people that claim they help you find loved ones, but Troy sounds like a person I could entrust to do such an important task for me. I totally believe in signs, and he has been helping people since the year one of the most important people to me in this world was born.

Prayers Please: We added this section because so many of you have asked us to remember you or your loved ones in our prayers. We have never wanted to force religion on anyone, so if you don't pray, then skip this section and go on to the next! And if you do pray - add the people listed here to your prayer list. Email Amy with your prayer requests.

Please pray for all the birthmothers and women who will be traveling from near and far to attend the Birthmother's Day Mad Hatter's Tea Party!

"As some of you may know Noah has recently been diagnosed with severe Scoliosis and surgery could help but this is a dangerous and scary surgery. After much prayer, we decided to move forward with the surgery only to find out that the doctor could not do the surgery until December! By December the Scoliosis could be so bad that Noah's body would become too stiff for doctors to do the surgery. At the advice of that Doctor, we searched for another Doctor and finally found one that we are comfortable with and that can probably do the surgery this summer. Please keep all of us in your prayers and please pray that we get the surgery date soon and that God prepares Noah's little body to handle this surgery. You can also check out my personal blog if you wish as there are more details about what's going on there and I have been using it as a way to keep everyone updated. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers!" ~ Coley

Birthmother Support Groups: We've added this feature to our monthly newsletters in the hopes that it will connect you with local birthmother support groups if that is something that you are searching for. While we believe the support you'll find at BirthMom Buds is invaluable, we also believe that the support that you'll find at a live support group meeting other birthmothers face to face is just as invaluable.  This list is going to start off short but hopefully, it will grow over time as more people find out about it and as more people begin to form support groups for birthmothers in their local communities.

A little something different this month!

Smiling
Author Unknown

Smiling is infectious you can catch it like the flu,

when someone smiled at me I started smiling too
when I passed the corner someone saw my grin
when he smiled I realized I passed it onto him.

I thought about that smile and realized its worth,
a single smile just like mine could travel round the earth
so if you feel a smile begin don't leave it undetected
lets start an epidemic quick and get the world infected.
