~ Memories ~

"The proverb Out of sight, out of Mind, never applies
to a mother's relationship with her child."

Most birthmoms are going to want keepsakes from their pregnancy and their child’s birth to remember their child by as well as giving their birth child things to remember them by.

There are many ways to do this, just be creative and let your heart speak.

For your child:

~ A letter (or letters) to your baby before their birth.  In these letters, you can explain to your child why you chose adoption. The adoptive parents can put them up until they think the time is right.

~ A scrap book or "birthmother's album with pictures of you and the birth father (if possible) – Include pics from childhood, any funny childhood memories, your hobbies and interests, favorite food, etc.

~ Make a tape of yourself speaking or singing.  Make a video tape of yourself talking to your child possibly explaining why you chose adoption or just telling about yourself and your likes and dislikes.

~ Have other people who are important in your life write letters to your child as well.

For you:

~ Ultrasound pictures.

~ The original profile or life book that you looked at when you chose the adoptive parents.

~ Mementos from the hospital such as the baby’s name card, baby’s hat, hospital bracelet, etc.

~ Journal for yourself too!

~ If baby has hair, some

~ You can also make a scrapbook with pictures of the baby that are sent to you as he/she grows up.

~ Hospital Photos – Take plenty of pictures in the hospital! Put these in a special album for yourself.  A recent birthmom, Abigail, brought her video camera to the hospital with her.  She would set it up on a table aimed at herself and her son when they were alone and talk to him on video and now has those precious memories on video tape.
